Guest Speaker: Niyyah Ruscher-Haqq 

  1. Bio: Niyyah writes middle grade and adult speculative fiction, fantasy and horror, with an emphasis on Muslim American and multicultural characters. Her novella “The Veil” debuts September 2026, and she published several short stories. She was selected as 2026 We Need Diverse Books Mentee for her middle grade fantasy manuscript “Under,” and was awarded a 2026 Regional Arts and Culture Council grant for the Muslim Storytellers Collective.
  2. Presentation: “So… You Want to Scare Children?”
    1. Niyyah shared information about writing middle grade and YA fiction, including details about those age groups, what to include and what to avoid, examples of books for the two age groups, and resources. She also answered the many questions attendees had.
