    1. HWA has a new Marketing and Operations Coordinator: Keith LaFountaine.
    2. HWA announced six diversity grant recipients in 2025: Stephanie Malia Morris, Frances Ogamba, Mara Olivas, Maria Soo Picone, Abdulrazaq Salihu, TPC I, and Verdell Walker.
    3. Open enrollment for health coverage through HWA’s partnership with Gallagher continues through January 15, 2026 for coverage that will begin February 1, 2026.
  3. Upcoming November & December Chapter Events
    1. Next book club meeting: Sunday, December 28 at 6:00 p.m. on Google Meet to discuss Fever House by Keith Rosson
    2. Keith Rosson will be the guest speaker at our January 18, 2026 chapter meeting
    3. Quarterly writing workshop: Sunday, January 04, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
      1. Make sure to send an email to sign up for a reader/critique slot, or feel free to come to listen and provide feedback!
    4. COLD-Themed Horror Reading at Beaverton City Library on Saturday, January 31, 2026

Guest Speaker

  • Richard Leis writes poems and stories that have been published in The Deadlands, F&SF, Nightmare, other literary and speculative journals, and anthologies from Brigids Gate Press, Crone Girls Press, House of Zolo, Weird Fiction Quarterly, and Wising Up Press. His poem “After ‘Wave, North Shore of Oahu’ Photograph” published in the Timberline Review was runner-up for The Paulann Petersen Award for Poetry in 2024. His poem “We Carry Our Ghosts to the Stars” published in Star*Line was a finalist for the 2025 Rhysling Awards. His poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. He works on a Mars mission.
  • Presentation: “Horror Poetry for Prose Writers”
    • Richard highlighted three craft tips useful for prose writing that he learned and improved by reading and writing horror poetry. He provided examples from poetry by Edgar Allan Poe, Beth Cato, Sara Tantlinger, Christina Sng, and himself, and prose by Alyssa Wong, Sarah Langan, Keith Rosson, Robert W. Chambers, and himself.
