Guest Speaker
- H.A. Spector introduced Amber Finnegan, our guest editor (https://finneganeditorial.com/) who is also our chapter Social Media Coordinator and Events Planning Co-Coordinator.
- Amber gave a presentation covering editing, type of editing, pricing, and more. She covered the types of editing, including developmental edits, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Next, she discussed style guides (she uses The Chicago Manual of Style and other style guides) and style sheets. She also discussed timelines (how long each stage of editing might take), rates, how to find an editor (if you’re not working with editors in-house in traditional publishing), and how to work with editors professionally. “Editors want your work to be its best!”
- Amber answered several questions after her presentation, including questions about whether or not a complete manuscript is required for a developmental edit, her dream projects (horror novels!), and other nuances of editing and being an editor.
