Katherine Quevedo, Niyyah Ruscher-Haqq, and other contributors joined editor Elizabeth Mitchell to discuss Clocks: a speculative and dark fiction anthology (Little Key Press) with Vintage Books in Vancouver, Washington. The readings and discussion were livestreamed and recorded on YouTube.

The first issue of Northern Shadows Magazine will be released online in October (perhaps on the 15th.) H. A. Spector, Editor, several other HWA Oregon members, and other contributors are putting together the new horror magazine.

Erik Grove is co-chairing a one-day single track speculative fiction (inclusive of the more spec side of horror!) writers conference this October in Oregon. It’s called the Endeavour Writers Conference and it is anchored by the annual Endeavour Award for outstanding speculative fiction by an author in the greater PNW.

Both Stephanie Feldstein and Dan Finnegan were asked by the editors they pitched to at StokerCon for the first three chapters of their books.

Niyyah Ruscher-Haqq’s new novella, The Veil, will be unveiled at a book launch on October 2, 2026.

Kate Boyes’ poem “Down in the valley” is included in the SFPA’s Dwarf Star anthology this year as an award finalist. The poem previously won first place last year in the SFPA’s annual contest (dwarf category.)

Richard Leis read several new and published horror poems at the pride and horror “Gay Dread” event at Checkered Flag Tavern II in Portland on Friday, June 26, 2026. Featuring drag performers and a reading of the first 200+ lines of Paradise Lost from memory, the event also included several local horror writers who read their, uh, dreadful works.
